| this site is no longer updated! have a look at www.kateandsarah.com for updated tour info, news, etc! 12/05/05 Calling all ice ball throwers, snow angle makers, fire place dwellers, and icicle lickers! We would like to put out a formal apology for the false information regarding the last show we played being the last Michigan show of 2005. Alas something climbed into Sarah's tummy and roughed it up before the show so Kate went it alone and did a fabulous job. But lucky for you and us we found another show and A ONE MAN BAND to truly conclude our first year of formal duo-ship. It is almost our anniversary, so come out and celebrate!! (we are registered at Target and Linens and Things)
Watch out where the huskies go, don't you eat that yellow snow! anchors away. 11/7/05 We are writing to you from the underground…. There have been a few events that have led us to have to seek asylum in an undisclosed town in an undisclosed state that may or may not look like a mitten. Kate Peterson and Sarah Cleaver have assumed alternate identities, purchased outfits from our neighborhood Halloween costume outlet, and headed to a cabin somewhere perhaps far far away or perhaps in your city. (by the way its time to mix your compost it is starting to smell funky). We were very thankful Halloween fell when it did cause people were starting to stare when we would go the store. I think it was really Kate’s incessant singing of “If I Could Turn Back Time” but she insists it's part of the outfit. So what are you wondering could force us into hiding? You guessed it… unconscionable frolicking. Every time we would step outside our house we would be so overcome by the beauty of the changing trees, the brisk autumn air, and the need to hacky sack that we would become wild beasts. Frolicking with a vengeance everywhere we could. Romping through the leaves, singing to the trees, hacky sacking in unauthorized areas. We became out of control…and the law knew it. They sent us away to let the victims of our reckless frolicking recooperate and insisted that we undergo a self help program. It has been two weeks and many hours of Dr. Phil cassettes teaching us, “Trees are our friends but all friends need boundaries.” We believe we have paid our dues and are ready to hit the road and engage in controlled frolicking with the trees in your neighborhood, at a respectful distance that is.

We could all also be wearing sheer tan colored clothing and hats with protective nets to shield us from malaria carrying bugs and the grueling sun if that helps you get in the right mind set. Your other senses are telling you that it is day 14 of this adventure without showers but the scent of OFF Spring Fresh bug repellant is making these close quarters bearable.> We join up with our traveling duo once again in the back country of Pennsylvania where they lay quietly in some thick highway brush patiently waiting for their cooler to drain. Since our last chance encounter with these endangered road warriors they have traversed the Mississippi River taming beasts large and small with their melodious voices and awkward charm.
We have been out of the warm mitten of Michigan for a few weeks now and have played some marvelous shows in the Midwest and the Southland where we continue to be amazed at the generous and wonderful people that we meet and share music with. We are continuing
north to roll around in the autumn leaves and frolic in some big
cities before heading back to the wooly mitten to welcome the fall
there. *no cement animals or munchkins were harmed in the making of this message.* anchors away.
Sarah and I have spent a month on sabbatical, away from the warm embraces and melodic congruencies of each other and have reunited in the bosom of the Michigan mitten. Because our fair state still will not allow non-romantical life mates to marry, we have decided to take our own more formal steps toward folk duo unification. This process is shockingly like marital bliss, without the frolicking around the neighborhood with a big rocks on our fingers singing, "I am Jenny from the Block" while flashing the bling around. We have united email listings for the long haul, or at least until one of us runs away to join the nunnery with Julie Andrews singing "the hills are alive" while twirling our skirts around. Thank god we both look fabulous in black. We are jumpin out of our trousers in excitement because we will be seeing you all again soon!!! Our longest tour yet is approaching and we hope that you are waiting with batted breath to witness our new songs, circus routines and merchandise in the flesh. So check the calendar for the best place for us to rendezvous with you. we are busy booking pride festivals for june - basically as many outdoor events as we can wrap our arms around. sarah has developed a new love for rolling sideways down steep hills and cant stop hopping curbs on my huffy. anyway, we'll let you know when our rainbows start sailing. in the meantime, we've got shows this week in lansing, ann arbor, mishawaka, IN (south bend area), and chicago. details here! my best as always... kate 4/25/05 howdy people! the snow from this weekend's surprise blizzard has melted... it's sunny and springy {again}. hence: easier to avoid/deny the intense reminders that the ozone layer/mama nature is pretty pissed off at us. each year i become more aware of how the changes in the air affect my mind and body. i can't wait to listen to music outside. i cant wait to play music outside. i've seen some amazing shows in the last couple weeks... it's really gotten my blood pumping... in conjunction with the fact that singing brings me more solace every day. particularly singing with ms. sarah cleaver, who seems to hold within her a very large portion of my {music making puzzle}... we have been working on our biggest tour yet... our plan: ·connecting·the·dots· within the majority of the eastern half of this country in a circular like motion to the tune of 2 months of fall colors. hell yeah. in
regards to shows coming up : needless to say, i am speaking from experience, people. the point is... you should click the links and check it out, or make your way out to a show because we will be sharing the stage. all details here! not to mention a show next week (5/5) in lansing opening for the always fabulous Ellis! my best as always... kate 12/15/04 Undone is done! and can hardly type because Al Green's Love and Happiness is
cosmically connecting to my muscles inspiring them to bounce
uncontrollably. and i'm being totally serious. i hope at
some point that you can say the same for yourself.
yesterday i finished a song that's been on the verge for a few months, and today i spent the afternoon with my dear friend alex wilson, who graced 4 songs on my new cd with his super-slick hand-drumming skills. it's just keeps getting better - for instance, the cello, compliments of ms. rachel alexander, is to be added next. and of course we can not forget the vocal stylings of ms. sarah cleaver, who will also be licking her lips in preparation to record a cut of harmonica in E flat. these are a couple new shows just added this week: including an opening slot for Edie Carey and a pub show in portland. a pub show in portland, that sounds like a lyric. have a look at the rest of them on the gigs page. new cd} wanna pre-order it?
you
have no idea how i wish i could type in the title of the album instead
of constantly referring to it as "the new cd." it's on the tip of my tongue,
really, it is.
december
is the goal. i am taking pre-orders now in person, on my website and by mail.
so
here's the deal: $ from pre-orders help pay for the recording and the

why would you want to pre-order you ask yourself? there are a couple reasons i can think of: 1,
you will be supporting independent arts and that feels
good
2,
you get a real good deal: the price is $15, but i promise not
to turn you away, please just pay what you can.
C,
if you preorder between now and november 30, you'll get a

just
a little announcement that my afore mentioned PNC (partna-n-crime) Sarah
Cleaver and I will be embarking on a little journey that we are
calling the torch song evolution tour: where we will
infuse old-soul folk with aggressive abandon. in non-promotional terms,
this means we will attempt to bridge gaps between old and new by
singing folk songs written by those that have gone before us.
we'll
be hitting up north carolina, atlanta, and most of the mid-west in jan-feb
05. heads up! there's more to come.
if

my best as always...........kate 09/03/04 {hey
friends}
so... i'm not so good with the news updates. sorry about that. i do have some news though - besides playing a couple gigs this month. including one very special pre fest faux fest! click on the flyer! -> here is the
plan: now that all copies of more to me are officially sold and
gone, and i am officially done coming up with reasons why i'm not ready
to record a new CD, i'll be heading into the studio in the next couple
months. heads up for a CD release some time in oct/nov. 04/03/04 spring is here - even though it might snow tomorrow. AND i'm opening for alix olson this week! --bonus! see details here AND ladyfest
lansing is right around the corner - a pass for the whole weekend
is only $25 if you buy
in advance... 02/25/04 working on/thinking about v.3 of the website...stay tuned new gigs
coming up and more coming... i hope everyone is doing well and thinking SPRING 9/27/03 well, it looks like this little update is turning out to be a somewhat monthly thing. i'm trying anyway. i haven't been playing a tons of shows lately - other, yet not more important, more demanding things have been sucking up my time and energy. but that will soon change! i have a couple gigs lined up for october and some possiblities for november and december.. but even cooler..finally scraped the $ together to set up my home computer for recording - so look for some bonus-like mp3s for your listening pleasure in the near future! help me out a little here - what would you like to see on this site? 8/28/03 i thought
it was about the time that i put a little something new up here. i
have been slacking. but just not in the laying on your couch avoiding
all responsibilty slacking. 6/12/03 i've always been indecisive. nothing new there. i changed my mind once again - i couldn't resist. next week i am going to head out west to denver (a new city for me!) with sarah and carmen and our comrads to Ladyfest Out West! a rockin
line-up, let me tell you. you should check
it out. as always, thanks for caring enough to come here and read this. i appreciate
you! 5/19/03
