“I adore kate peterson and her mellifluous, aching gravelly voice. Kate transforms, nonchalantly, mundane stories into strummingly sensual, powerful songs. They make my heart skip a beat every time.”

Kate Peterson creates pleasantly aggressive folk music that you can rock to, cry to or just plain smile to. She’s nice! And when you see her play, it’s more than obvious that she sings from her heart and the worn spot on her guitar shows that she plays from there too.

She began playing guitar when she was 16, curious and obsessed with Pearl Jam. In fact, she claims Eddie Vedder as an influence next to other fine songwriters such as Patty Griffin, Ani Difranco, Nicholas Koby, Melissa Ferrick, James Taylor, Martin Sexton, Kris Delmhorst, Tracy Chapman and New Kids on the Block. Yes it's true. Maybe they aren't songwriters, but Kate's only vocal training came from singing along, and that she did.

"...'pleasantly aggressive folk,' vigorous guitar playing layered with her gravelly, powerful voice. She pours out a sound that is pure, lyrics that are earnest and songs that are often gut-wrenching."

Kate is currently touring as one half of a duo with songwriter Sarah Cleaver. The buzz is that these ladies are a funny bunch on stage. Their harmonies have been described as the kind that build so smoothly until suddenly they start to shake your insides. It's common to find them as the base of a three-person pyramid, playing guitars atop folding chairs or singing a Holly Near song a cappella to a park full of people rallying to Take Back the Night. Kate and Sarah recently released an EP together, entitled Torch Song Evolution, named after their first tour together.

Kate has shared stages with many-a-talented nationally touring performers including Toshi Reagon, Alix Olson, The Butchies, Pamela Means, Ellis, Edie Carey, Chris Pureka, Myshkin’s Rubley Warblers, Sista Otis, Rose Polenzani, Katie Reider, Tami Hart and more.

She’s criss-crossed the country in support of her first album, More to Me, and is now touring in support of her second independent release, Undone, distributed by Goldenrod Music.
